New Installation of a High Pressure Shearbox at the University of Texas

GDS Instruments recently installed a High Pressure Back Pressure Shearbox (HPBPS) at The University of Texas at Austin for Dr. Demian Saffer. The HPBPS is a high pressure, high load version of our standard backpressure shearbox. The apparatus is able to perform direct shear tests with precise back pressure control to realistically simulate slope failure.

We look forward to the research published by Dr. Saffer and his students using our HPBPS system! We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Joshua O'Connell one of the university’s research engineers, for his instrumental assistance in setting the system up within the laboratory.

About the The University of Texas and the Institute for GeoPhysics (UTIG)

Founded in 1972, the UTIG conducts research focusing on five main themes; climate, energy, marine geosciences, seismology and tectonophysics, and planetary and polar geophysics. Nestled in the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas, students are supported by a large faculty with technical and administrative expertise.
