Clayton Dodd, Sales Director at GDS exhibited at the 6th International Conference on Geotechnical and Geophysical Site Characterization this week in Budapest. The conference title was "Towards Synergy at Site Characterisation" and featured a series of short courses and keynote lectures from invited speakers. 

GDS has ventured a second time beyond their PC’s as Nick Warren and George exhibited at British Geotechnical Association Annual Conference, held at the Institute of Civil Engineers Headquarters in London.

During the afternoon of the 9^th of March 2018, a mobile slump occurred in an approximately 300 m section of the southern embankment of the Cadia Valley Operations (Cadia) Northern Tailings Storage Facility (NTSF), located in central-west New South Wales, Australia. The embankment slump resulted in a release of tailings from the NTSF, with the released tailings captured within the adjacent South Tailings Storage Facility (STSF).

GDS has finally ventured beyond their PC’s as Clayton, Krystle and George exhibited at Geotechnica, at the Warwickshire Event Centre. This is an annual trade event aimed at promoting Geotechnical Services, which encompasses Instrumentation, Laboratory Services, Ground Preparation and Drilling Services – bringing disparate industry sections together under (and outside) one roof.

On Tuesday 25th May, GDS were delighted to be recognised as the Judges Scientific ‘Company of the Year’ for 2020! GDS achieved the award based on their growth in 2019/2020, along with their record of 5 years continuous growth. 

GDS’ NEW Electromechanical Dynamic Cyclic Simple Shear Confined (EMDCSS-CON) is the premier device for simple shear testing. It is capable of carrying out dynamic cyclic tests ranging from small strain (0.005% shear strain amplitude) to large strain (10% shear strain amplitude), as well as a large range of extremely accurate quasi-static testing.

GDS are currently recruiting for a Geotechnical System Engineer, a Commissioning & Quality Engineer and a Software Engineer.

GDS has re-designed and upgraded two of it static load frames. The new 128kN and 256kN load frames will replace our existing 100kN and 250kN models respectively. The load frames have enhanced position/velocity accuracy, direct load control and improved stiffness while still fulfilling the role of a traditional velocity controlled load frame. 

Testing in Constant Normal Stiffness (CNS) conditions have been widely used to better represent the effects of soil contraction/dilatation on the normal stress at the interface between the soil and the piles. A new (2021) upgrade to the control system and the firmware of GDS’ Electromechanical Dynamic Cyclic Simple Shear Device (EMDCSS) allows the apparatus to perform both static and dynamic simple shear tests in CNS conditions.
