The GDS Cyclic Triaxial Automated System (GDSCTAS),
with optional upgrade to resilient modulus testing, uses a
traditional load frame and triaxial cell to allow high load static
work with an additional +/-5kN dynamic actuator for dynamic cyclic
work.

What are its
uses
For dynamic work the top of the test specimen is connected to a
pneumatic actuator which is free to move vertically but is rigidly
fixed in the horizontal directions by means of high-quality low
friction bush in the top of the triaxial cell. In this
configuration, the loading platen of the load frame is fixed in
position.
For static work the dynamic actuator is locked to prevent load being
taken by the 5kN actuator and the base platen of the load frame is
moved using a stepper motor to generate
accurate displacements at up to 50kN axial force.
The vertical dynamic actuator is a +/-5kN capacity electropneumatic
actuator with closed-loop control of force and displacement by means
of the GDS Dynamic Control System (GDSDCS). GDSCTAS becomes an
STDCTAS with a Standard Pressure/Volume Controller (STDDPC) and
ADVCTAS with an Advanced Pressure/Volume Controller (ADVDPC).
