In October 2008 Jerry Sutton attended the
25th China National Symposium on Geotechnical Testing held in
Hangzhou, China and hosted by Zhejiang University. While Earth
Products China sponsored the main conference and then organised a
GDS Users group to be held immediately after the conference for
three days. The format of the users group consisted of the first day
presentations were given by Jerry Sutton of GDS, Tony Zhan, Jian
Zhou and Huang Bo Zhejiang University as well as Xie Kanghe and
Shaolong Tang from the Yangtze River Research Institute. Subjects
ranged from current research trends around the world to photo
imagery for measurement of triaxial sample volume changes. The
presentations were found to be interesting and informative and GDS
would like to express their thanks to the presenters for their time
in preparing and presenting such informative sessions.
The following days of the GDS users group was spent in the
laboratory at Zhejiang University. The first day concentration was
given to the 10Hz Dynamic triaxial testing system presented and
demonstrated by HuangBo of Zhejiang University and George Cui of EPC.
This was followed by an interesting presentation of the HKUST volume
change system by Tony Zhan of Zhejiang University. The final
presentation of the users group was made by Jian Zhou, HuangBo and
George Cui of the large diameter HCA system at Zhejiang University.
Overall the users group was very interesting and we hope promotes
great future collaboration between GDS users in China. GDS
Instruments would like to thank Zhejiang University for agreein g to
host the event and Earth Products China for organising such a
successful and smoothly run event. |
